What is the Self-Generation Incentive Program?
The Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) was established by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to promote increased residential storage installations in California. Its aim is to offer incentives that help lower storage costs for consumers. By using residential storage batteries, strain on the utility grid is reduced, thus lessening the necessity for costly fossil fuel-based power plants.
SGIP operates through five incentive levels, with rates decreasing as the market matures. Approximately $57 million has been allocated statewide for residential energy storage systems throughout the year.
